With creativity playing such a huge part of our work here at RED Publications, we’re always up for celebrating it.
So when the York Culture Awards came to town in November, the event was high on our list.
As sponsors of the evening event, RED was invited along to present the award for the Excellence In Writing category.
The temperatures dropped before the evening event but our director Andy donned his finest and set off for the hallowed surroundings of York Minster.
Organised by Make It York, the York Culture Awards celebrate excellence in the arts and culture sector and reward outstanding innovation, creativity and quality. And the Minster pews were packed with local poets, playwrights, artists, musicians, animators and actors.
The Excellence in Writing award was won by local author Anneliese Emmans Dean for her book Flying High!
Described as ‘poetry meets ornithology’, Flying High! is a gorgeous guide to British birds for children (and grown ups) mixing up entertaining poems, science facts and amazing feathery photos.
Andy said: “Anneliese’s award was well deserved – Flying High! is a brilliant book for getting youngsters interested in wildlife. We were delighted to be involved in this year’s York Culture Awards – it’s great to be able to help shine a light on our local creative talent here in York.
“Well done Anneliese – and congratulations to all the winners!”
Don’t panic if you missed out on this year’s Awards – they’re an annual event, so there’s plenty of time to plan your entry for next year. Just remember to pack your thermals.
